PAKISTAN MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL ADVISED ALL STUDENTS WHO INTEND TO STUDY MEDICAL COURSES ONLY CONSIDER RECOGNIZED AND REGISTERED COLLEGES AS THERE ARE 90 MEDICAL COLLEGES AND 39 DENTAL COLLEGES IN THE COUNTRY 20TH OCTOBER 2013 Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) President Prof Masood Hameed Khan has advised all students who intend to pursue medical studies to only consider recognized and registered colleges. In a statement issued by the PMDC on Sunday, Prof Khan informed that a complete list of medical and dental colleges registered with and authorized by the PMDC has been uploaded on the council’s website for students’ facilitation. PMDC is an autonomous statutory authority formed to regulate medical and dental education and training in Pakistan. Since its inception, PMDC has recognized 90 medical colleges and 39 dental colleges, from the public and private sectors, throughout Pakistan. In Sindh, a total of nine public and 13 private medical colleges have been recognized by the PMDC, while 46 medical colleges of Punjab are registered, of which 18 are public and 28 are private medical colleges. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eight public and nine private medical colleges are recognized, along with one private and one public in Baluchistan and two public and one private medical college in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, four public and 12 private dental colleges of Sindh are PMDC recognized, along with three public and 12 private dental colleges in Punjab. In KPK, two public and five private dental colleges have been recognized by the PMDC, while only one public sector dental college of Baluchistan has been authorized. The statement added that the PMDC intends to equip all institutes with state-of-the-art technology, as it is essential for quality medical education. Furthermore, the council has also introduced a software that offers auto-forwarding of emails, complaints and suggestions to the concerned authorities, including the PMDC president, vice president and executive members. The statement also informed that the PMDC has decided to establish centers in Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, Abbottabad and Muzaffarabad.
