Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu was adopted as consensus candidate for Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He replaces Bamanga Tukur who resigned the position on Wednesday. What is it about this new chairman? I present 10 things to be aware of: 1. Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu was born on June 11, 1955 2. He was was governor of Bauchi State from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2007. 3. After two terms as Governor, he Senatorial election to represent Bauchi South and was defeated by the present Federal Capital Territory Minister, Bala Mohammed, who won under ANPP. 4. Formerally, Governor Isa Yuguda set up a Commission of Enquiry as soon as he was sworn in to to investigate the management of funds into some Ministries and parastatals during the administration of Adamu Muazu. 5. Mu’azu relocated to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on self exile in 2008, after missing an appointment with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). 6. In 2009, the commission of enquiry set up by Bauchi state government concluded its investigation, and came up with a white paper that indicted Muazu of embezzling N2b, among other indictments, as well as banned him from contesting for public office for 10 years. 7. On his return to the country in 2010, Mu’azu filed a case against the state government, through his counsel, Akintola Adeniyi (SAN), saying the state government did not have the right to ban him from contesting for political office. The case with the suit no BA/295m/2009 was first mentioned on 25th February 2010. 8. Mu’azu was appointed as Chairman of the National Pensions Commission by President Goodluck Jonathan in November, and sworn in last week. The civic group, Transition Monitoring Group, protested the appointment at the time, saying it was morally wrong for the president to appoint a man being tried for corruption to such a high office. 9. The case which might have suffered setback since 2009 finally came up this month cleared Adamu Muazu of alleged N2b indictment and others by the Judicial Commission of enquiry. 10.
