PERSISTENT...CONSISTENT...EFFORT....The effort you put in every day to help your hearing impaired child with their hearing and speech, will compound over a long length of time.... This involves persistent...consistent...effort.... It took several months before Hughan started responding to sounds he could hear, using his hearing aids....We did this by pointing to our ears... saying "What can you hear?"...with a happy expression on our faces...and then we would show him what was making the noise..... Hughan started trying to repeat words we were teaching him after a few months of responding to sounds we were making him aware of..... Often he would say a word and then he would not repeat the same word again for a long time.... We never gave up....it has taken consistent...persistent.... effort....over a long length of time... This is what we were taught.... Always make sure your child wears their hearing equipment... at all times during the day if possible....Keep the equipment clean and the batteries are working. Make eye contact when you are talking to your hearing impaired child.... you can do this by getting down to their eye level...They will also be able to see the expression on your face... Have light on your face...so it helps them see clearly what you are telling them.... Talk in short sentences....repeat the same sentences as often as you can....and never us the word "IT"...name everything..... Put objects you are talking about next to your face.... Talk about things that interest your child..... The choices you make every day to help your child with their speech and hearing.....will have a HUGE impact over a long length of time....This takes persistent..consistent..effort....
