PETA offers $10,000 reward in Oakland dog abuse case! OAKLAND, Calif. — PETA officials announced Monday they were offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who abused a female German shepherd and then dumped her off in a crate at Oakland animal services. PETA Director Martin Mersereau announced the reward saying that a necropsy on the dog revealed she had “been suffering from neglect for months.” The dog, named Marlo by the staff, was dumped off in a crate outside the animal control office under the cover of darkness on May 29th. An image of the man was captured by a security camera. Marlo was emaciated and had a chain and cord wrapped around her neck and legs so tightly that they were embedded in her skin, resulting in severely infected and maggot-infested wounds. She also had bones protruding through her skin, and her organs were beginning to shut down. The necropsy also revealed that Marlo had been attempting to keep herself alive by eating sticks and dirt. “This dog was really just allowed to rot in a backyard and suffer for a long time,” said David Cronin, of Oakland Animal Service. Although police have the surveillance video, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
