PGH., PA: **CRITICAL** 2 SR. JRTS LIVING OUTSIDE! PLEASE HELP THEM!!! PLEASE CROSS-POST ASAP contact ann mccandless - amccandless76@gmail i received the below facebook post last month. these two still desperately need re-homed, and the weathers getting colder. please help. please dont harass the owner, as thatll only serve to make her uncooperative, and our goal is to help these poor dogs. This is a very hard posting for me to make. Im trying to convince myself that this is the right decision. This photo is of Jack and Jill, my “fur-babies”. Ive had them since they were 6-week old pups. They are siblings...one year apart, born to the same mother. These two have been with me through thick and thin, 6 jobs, 4 moves, two college degrees, and everything else that has been thrown my way since 1998. They are really getting up in years, Jack is 15 1/2 and Jill is 14 1/2 years old, and they have started to have behavioral and physical issues that require a lot of time and attention. As a single lady, I had nothing but time and attention to give to them. However, my life has changed (a new husband, baby, home, etc.) and I no longer have all that time and attention to give them, or at least the extra attention they now need. As much as it kills to have to find them new homes, I am doing this for their sake. They deserve so much better. They arent sick, so putting them down isnt an option. Im hoping to find someone to help get them through this winter and their “retirement” by taking them in and giving them love, attention, frequent potty breaks and exercise. Perhaps in a heated garage or barn, as I am not sure they can function as house-dogs anymore. I wont hide the details from anyone, so here you go: Jack has never been good with children, so he has had to spend most of the last year and a half apart from the family. He is now very slow, and his eyesight is poor, so he sometimes has a hard time finding his way around. Jill is still in fairly good health, except for a few lumps and bumps. She still has a lot of energy, and now has begun to run away any chance she gets due to her unhappiness at home. They are both very heavy shedders, quick tempered, and now tend to just make terrible messes in their indoor living areas. Over the past four years they have only been content when they are in our basement or in the garage. And even there, they tend to bark a lot due to lack of attention. Needless to say, it was a LONG winter last year! For my sanity, and for their cleanliness, fresh air and exercise, Jack and Jill became outside dogs for the summer when the days and nights were warm. They have a beautiful and safe run with a nice warm and dry dog house. However, winter is quickly approaching. They cant handle constant temperatures below 50 degrees, and winter in Western PA gets much colder than that! I do not want to put them through another winter being stuck inside my garage in pens, making one continual mess after another, and starving for human attention. As of right now the plan is to shelter their kennel from the wind, rain and snow, seal up the open areas of the dog house and provide a bedding of straw and praying that this will be enough for them. Thank you!
