Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Shia In addition, the meeting was attended by representatives of independent education providers: Dar-ul-Uloom Muhammadia Ghausia Bhera Sharif and Dar-ul-Uloom Karachi. The honourable Pir Muhammad Ul Hasnat Shah Sb is currently the Minister of State for Religious Affairs & Inter-faith Harmony in Pakistan. He is leader of the Dar-ul-Uloom Muhammadia Ghausia Bhera Sharif and its over two hundred branches of male and female education centres and madrasahs throughout Pakistan, which was founded by Zia-ul-Ummat Justice Pir Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari (ra) and is a well established and recognised centre of Islamic learning. UNDERSTANDING STATE-MADRASAH ENGAGEMENT IN PAKISTAN: According to an Oxford University report dated 2007 titled State-Madrasa Engagement in Pakistan by Dr M Bano: In 2007, there were 4500 madrasahs registered with Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahle-Sunnat-wal-Jamaat (Berelvi) established in 1959; 9500 with Wafaq-ul-Madaris (Deobandi) established in 1959; 1000 with Rabita-ul-Madaris (Jamat-e-Islami) established in 1982; 500 with Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Salafiya (Ahle-Hadeeth) established in 1955 and 500 with Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Shia (Shia) established in 1959. A much larger number of madrasahs are those not registered with any of these umbrella bodies. During the 1980s, five independent education providers were given the authority to issue their own degree certificates recognised by the Government, meaning indirectly they also have the status of a wafaq: Dar-ul-Uloom Muhammadia Ghausia Bhera Sharif (Sargodha), Jamia Ashrafia Feroz Pur Road (Lahore), Dar-ul-Uloom Korongi K-Area (Karachi), Jamia Taleemat-e-Islamia (Faisalabad) and Jamia Islamia Minhaj-ul-Quran (Lahore). May Allah continue to put barakah in the life and efforts of Pir Amin Ul Hasnat Shah Sb whose days and nights are in the service of Islam and Pakistan. Amin.
