PJ Mantoss wrote; ABOUT THE TRANSFER OF LG HQ FROM T/BALEWA TO BUNUNU My fellow Zar tribesmen! I am compelled by some recent negative statements from some uninformed people about the land of Tafawa Balewa to share my little opinion on the above subject matter. I personally believe the unconstitutional transfer of the LG headquarters from Puji (Tafawa Balewa) to Bununu is a great blessing to us in disguise. Yes. I know what your immediate reaction might be. Never the less, read this first. The establishment of Pusji (or Puji) as the Hq of the TB Local Government in the first place was originally intended for the purpose of politically taking over zar land by our enemy – the diabolic Bauchi emirate. When the colonial administration under Lord Fredrick Lugard introduced the indirect rule system in the north with the creation of homologous districts in d 1900s, Lere district was one of those districts created in the then Bauchi province. The headquarters of this district was supposed to be in Lere town, but the Bauchi emirate council (Hausa-Fulanis) who were the chief agents of the colonial administration in this province decided to site it in the city of Puji instead of Lere town. This was in a bid to actualize their long term ambition of taking over and dominating the ‘arnas’ who have severally, before then, repelled and resisted their attacks militarily & politically. In fact, they should have registered the name of the town in the tongue of the natives (Pusji) but refused and registered it as Tafawa Balewa, which is the tongue of their Muslim brethren – the Fulani - who were only migrants that settled there in the late 1800s. Their main goal of taking over Puji failed even after decades of oppressing and dehumanizing our ancestors (the zar). Then in 1996 under Gen. Abacha’s administration, they schemed and carved out Bogoro LG from TB. The purpose for this was the same as mentioned above. This too failed. Then in 2001 during the sharia nonsense, they imported mercenaries from Chad, Niger and other far northern states to come and kill us in Puji in a so-called jihad. That too failed. These are just few among many other evils they have perpetrated against Puji. What more is it left for them to do other than pack and leave our town? U can see from above that they have repeatedly failed after over a century of trying. They have finally thrown in the towel by removing what they craftily brought to destroy us. Try to look at what is going on in Zar land from the historical perspective and you will be surprised at the excitement you will feel. This is just a summary of what has transpired between the Hausa-Fulani Muslims and the Zar Christians in Bauchi state from the 1940s to the present. If you are truly interested in the History of the relationship between the Zar chiefdom and the Bauchi emirate, contact me for detailed literature. Long live Puji! Long live Zar chiefdom!
