PNM Righteous Means Corruption in the face of such damning evidence, PNM geriatric Youth Officer who is a role model for PNM youth (according to his leader) praises Marlene as a beacon of righteousness. ANNCR: People’s National Movement Youth Officer Fitzgerald Hinds says Port of Spain South MP Marlene McDonald remains a beacon of righteousness in the party. Ms. McDonald is being called upon to say more about a three hundred and seventy five thousand dollar cheque given to an organization with which she has ties. The cheque was said to be made out to the Calabar Foundation on May 12th 2010 some twelve days before the 2010 election. Speaking with News Centre 5 this afternoon, Mr. Hinds said Ms. McDonald continues to be a beacon in the party. MR. HINDS: That is the ambition and the intention of those who are obviously hateful of Marlene McDonald and those who I think is their greatest desire to see her displaced or rejected politically but that is not the way the vast majority of us feel. We think she has been an outstanding PNM personality and our business is to encourage her and to support her as she does what the party expects of her. If anyone has allegations to make they are obviously in this democracy free to make them to the Integrity Commission, with the police, they can do that. They can report it to the party if they think it is a matter for that kind of handling. ANNCR: He dismissed those who would seek to target her with the matter as persons wanting to see the fall of the party. MR. HINDS: But at the end of the day, so far from what I have (inaudible) from a distance there is nothing substantive to interfere my own impressions of her and I think we are in good hands with Marlene McDonald, that’s my own view and as for political opponents who staged a press conference yesterday, they as everyday (inaudible) once they see anything looking like a dark cloud over the PNM they start doing a dance (inaudible) so I wasn’t surprised when I saw some of these UNC enthusiasts come out hoping that they could find something in this to weaken the People’s National Movement. ANNCR: Earlier this week, Ms. McDonald dismissed allegations as the work of someone who has been trying to slander and demonize her over the past few years. She pointed fingers at the Treasurer of her constituency Adrian Clarke. Mr. Clarke insists he has all the documents and the copies of the cheque issued under her watch as Minister of Community Development. He said he is willing to face the court if he has to.
