POEM OF THE DAY Peace Peace is the polished surface of a lake the mirror of mankind’s highest aspirations. War is a tempest in a tapestry the image is glory but the threads are woven from the spirit of sorrow. We play with our children in the lake of peace. There is joy for the victors in war but otherwise no happiness is found. In the placid lake full of amber dawns there are secret streams that flow into the storm, for it is what we do with peace that ignites war. While war itself moves up a river laying waste to all things but no matter what it always ends in the golden sunset of peace. We cling to peace never aware of the myriad faults that lead us to war. The waters are sweet and we never want to leave the lake, But we become arrogant, impatient and quarrelsome. We leave the security of peace so that war may swiftly settle our disputes. It does not. The question is who will be the better person. Who will be kind first. Who will bend enough to make the quarrel end. We can not make a world on words alone but if we erect the edifice of our actions by just reaching Out to people, by looking past our differences and accepting the faults of others and by building The future together. Then we can hang war’s tapestry in a museum. The storm frozen in the ice of the past, aries Bound up in time. We will live in the lake of peace building our life in exuberance but still moment by moment. Forever reaching for the fruit of hope, hesperedian apples that grow in a secret grove and only the Bravest among us may pick them but always standing on humanities shoulders. When we retire from our day at the lake we will visit the museum. The tapestry hangs like the echo of a nightmare. A tear touches our cheek. We remember the glory, we remember the sorrow, we light a candle for our friends For now we finally know that war is gone forevermore. BY: JF Anstaed
