POLYPHONIC CHORUSES ASSOCIATION OF TURKEY 19th TURKEY CHOIR FESTIVAL INFORMATION FORM Turkish Choirs Festival aims for; - contributing ethnic music to reach out more of an international dimension through the polyphonic choir music - motivating those choir conductors/educators whom work in this field by providing opportunity to exhibit their activities - empowering social and artistic relations between choir members by the concert activities which take place in the festival - having people to listen distinguished examples out of Turkish and worlds choir music literature through concerts, radio and TV broadcasting. The festival is planned to take place in Ankara, Nazim Hikmet Culture Center, 16-25 May 2014. Admission Terms and Conditions: 1. The deadline for applying to attend to the festival is: 24 February 2014. The application after the deadline will take absolute no consideration. 2. The choir who applies for attending to the festival must apply with an official application letter or by using the application form in the attachment and must transfer 75 TL(25 Euro) admission fee to the bank account number with the IBAN number TR790001001235345377665001 (location info in case of need: Ziraat Bankası / Bulvar Şubesi). The choirs whose applications that are not accepted to attend the festival will have their admission fee returned. Those choirs who decide not to attend to the festival after applying will not have their admission fee returned. 3. Applicant choirs, if necessary, will be subjected to an auditive evaluation. The association does not have responsibilities towards any establishment concerning its evaluation. The results of the evaluation will be sent to the contact person of the evaluated choir by e-mail. Therefore the e-mail address provided in the application must be correct and in use. 4. Accepted applicant choirs will be communicated through e-mail and will be asked to provide some other necessary information such as their biographies and concert programs before the date of 28 April 2014. To be able to attend to the festival, the choirs must provide necessary information and documents before the deadlines. Rules of the Festival: 1. Professional or amateur choirs in any level can be attending to the festival with the condition of performing polyphonic choir repertoire. The conditions to be provided by a variety of choirs are indicated below: a. Younger Children (Pre-school) chorus; may perform polyphonic music with instrumental accompaniment. b. Children chorus; must include minimum of two polyphonic (at least two voices) choir compositions/arrangements. c. Choirs that fit in any other sort of categories than above (mix choir, youth choir etc.); have to perform at least one of the pieces listed below. These pieces are noted as; three madrigals, 20th century music and folk music arrangements. If the choir applies in advance, it may have the possibility to perform another composition other than the listed, under the conditions of alternating according to the specifications and applying for approval in advance. The sheet-music of the listed compositions are meant to be sent to the applicant choirs. i. So Ben Mi Cha Bon Tempo – Orazio Vecchi – Madrigal ii. Mairis Wedding – James Wild – Habridean folk music For the choirs that will be attending to the festival for the first time 1. b/c conditions are not obligatory. 2. According to the festivals format, the choirs have to be on stage minimum of 10 minutes and maximum of 20 minutes. The duration includes auditive performing, the breaks between the pieces, the applause time etc. It is not permitted to the choirs to finish their performances if they over stay on stage. The choir member and directors must prevent themselves from giving irrelevant speeches on stage that may affect the time limitation and the flow of the concert program. 3. It is expected from all the participants to listen to the other choirs taking part in the festival, to attend to the festivals other activities, not to attempt in behavior that may be contradictory to the festivals spirit and aims and may upset other participants. 4. The participant choirs must perform at the time and location specified by the association. 5. The participant choirs must provide their own transportation and accommodation expenses. 6. The evaluation of each choir is made by considering the choirs self artistic features presented during their concert only. There is no comparison made with other participant choirs. 7. The participant choirs hold all the responsibility over the pieces they perform in the festival. 8. All the rights to take photos, audio and visual recordings are owned by the association. It is not permitted to attempt any kind of auditive and visual recording unless there is a written official permission given by the association. 9. Turkish Polyphonic Choirs Association owns all the copyrights of the concerts and performances in the festival in any kind. All the audio or visual material or data use is subjected to written permission of the association. Other activities in the Festival: 1. The participant choirs will be giving concerts in concert halls, parks, business centers and so forth appropriate locations in Ankara during the festival. 2. In the extent of the festival it is planned to organize exclusive performances, symposiums, workshops and as such activities which serve to the festivals aims. AWARDS: The participant choirs are subjected to an evaluation made by Festival Evaluation Commission according to the artistic features presented in their performances without any comparison to the other choirs. After the evaluation is made, the choirs are rewarded artistically in one of the 17 specified distinctive artistic criteria which they gained the highest points. All of the artistic awards are equivalent in importance. Each award is equal in terms of artistic value. The awards to be given after the evaluation: • Jazz – rhythmic jazz interpretation success award, • Participation into polyphony success award, • Modern music (20th century) interpretation success award, • Accompanied composition interpretation success award, • Children song interpretation success award, • Diction – articulation, comprehensibility success award, • Intonation, homogeneity and choral tone success award, • Folk music interpretation success award, • Madrigal interpretation success award, • Musicality – musical dynamics success award, • Original music interpretation success award, • Richness and diversity in concert program success award, • Rhythmic coordination success award, • Stage performance, choir discipline and presentation success award, • Composition with a soloist interpretation success award, • Three or more voices children song interpretation success award, • Conductor – choir cooperation success award Besides the awards listed above, the festival sponsor establishments give awards to the choirs they find appropriate for, under the title Special Awards.
