POQUOSON SHARKS LOOKING TO FILL A FEW ROSTER SPOTS FOR FALL 2013 The Poquoson Sharks are looking to fill a few roster spots on many of our teams, but are especially looking to fill spots on the following teams: U11 Boys, U 12 Boys, U12 Girls, U14 Girls and U17 Girls. If you are interested in trying out or need more information, please send an email to Coach Katlyn Brashear at kkrist77@gmail. If you know someone who is relocating to the area please feel free to share information about the Poquoson Sharks. Who are the Poquoson Sharks? A program of the Islander Soccer Association and an affiliate of the Tidewater Sharks from Williamsburg, the Sharks offer advanced, recreational & travel teams affiliated with the WISC, PUMA football, Wolverhampton Wanderers “Wolves”, the Sharks minor league women’s team in the WPSL and the men’s minor league teams in the IPL. tidewatersharks. The Poquoson Sharks will be fielding fourteen boys and girls teams beginning in the fall of 2013. What ages? U9 through U18 boys and girls. All players will be registered through United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) / Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) and receive the insurance benefits through those organizations. When do they play? The program fee is per season and the players will have the option to participate in the fall and/or spring season. The winter and summer seasons are separate but the Sharks will offer technical training, camps and clinics during those periods as well. U15 –U18 only play league games in the fall. What leagues/tournaments will the teams play in? The VSL “Virginia Soccer League” will be the main travel league and the teams will play 8-9 games per season in that league. The Sharks will be applying for future membership in the Virginia Premier League. The VPL will be the top competitive league in the area. Developmental teams will have the option to play in TASL or setup a series of friendlies with our affiliate programs and other local organizations. The Sharks will compete in the top exposure tournaments, participate in state cups, play friendlies against top club teams as well as participate in Regional leagues and competitions throughout the year. We will be realistic about the level of our teams and put them in the proper environment to challenge them but not overwhelm and stifle their development. How much is the fee per season and what does it include? The player fee per season for the 2013-14 year is $300 for U10-U12, $350 for U13-U14 and $425 for U-15-U18 players. This fee includes player registration, league entry fees, one tournament entry fee, coaching, technical training, speed & agility, goalkeeper training, administrative support, season passes to Sharks minor league matches and events as well as discounts for camps and WISC programs. Additional tournaments are an extra fee. High School teams will play in college showcase tournaments. Are there scholarships available? We believe that all levels of soccer should be available to any player with the attitude, desire, and ability to compete regardless of financial status. It is our hope that no players opt out of soccer for financial reasons. The Islander Soccer Association will provide full or partial scholarships for Poquoson children who would be unable to participate due to adverse financial situations. Depending on need, scholarships may include funding for basic equipment and uniforms. Parents must complete a scholarship application prior to each season for consideration. The application will be confidential and will be reviewed by parent representatives of the Advisory Board. When granted a scholarship, parents may be expected to perform volunteer service for the soccer club. Scholarships for students outside of Poquoson may be considered. For a scholarship application please send an email to poquosonsharkssoccer@gmail. How many teams will the Poquoson Sharks have this fall? We have declared fourteen teams boys and girls teams with the Virginia Soccer League (VSL) for the Fall of 2013. What about uniforms? The club has finalized an agreement to be a PUMA TCC “Total Club Concept” organization. This partnership will enhance the Sharks professionalism and provide access to gear and partner programs. The uniform package will be approximately $905 and includes 2 jerseys, 1 short, 2 socks, Sharks training top and sack-pack. This fee is only necessary for new players to the program or if a player needs to replace his uniform package. Every 2 years the organization will change the look of their uniforms and at that point a new uniform package will need to be purchased. Coaching Staff? The Tidewater Sharks Director of Coaching, Kevin Darcy (US Soccer “A” License, US Soccer National Youth License, NSCAA Premier License, Professional and College Coach and Player) in conjunction with the Directors of Player Development & Senior Staff will approve the coaches’ slate each year based on experience and licensure. Sharks coaches will have access to club coaching education and subsidy towards state and national license courses. All Poquoson coaches will be licensed and experienced at both the club and high school level. Facilities? Poquoson teams will practice and play games in the Poquoson, York and Hampton areas depending on availability of facilities and teams will have the opportunity to train and play matches at the Warhill Sports Complex and The WISC.
