PRAYER ALERT: On Monday we are doing a free outreach event funded by our Secret Keeper Girl-to-Girl partners. (Thank you!) There are approximately 14,533 girls under the age of 19 growing up in Columbiana County, which contains East Liverpool, OH where both teen pregnancy and poverty rates fall between 60-80%. (Yes, thats correct. We were shocked too so we double checked it. Reported teen pregnancy rate is 57% which does not account for estimated unreported pregnancies!)The average girl has a 3rd grade reading level, a child, and no form of employment by the time she is in her early 20’s. With the generational goal of social security/disability as a primary income, multiple pregnancies at an increasingly younger age have become the predominant means of economic survival for these precious teenagers and young women. When we were asked to go to their community and be a part of rewriting their stories, our hearts were filled with deep hope and faith and one undeniable answer: yes!
