PRAYER REQUEST: A very longtime friend of mine is having a procedure done at UK today in his continuing battle with Lung Cancer. The following is from his daughter... So...as many of you know, my dad has been battling his Stage 3 Inoperable Lung Cancer for two years now. Officially diagnosed as Stage IIIA of Squamous Cell Carcinoma, which means that the cancer has spread only to the lymph nodes on the same side of the chest where the cancer started. In his case, the right lung. (His right, your left.) The entire upper lobe of his right lung collapsed last fall and since then he has had limited air intake in the remaining unblocked part of his right lung, but the cancer has slowly been suffocating the only opening that allows him to utilize what is left of that lung. Tomorrow morning he will go in for a procedure at the UK Hospital to have that airway ballooned open to allow the doctors to implant a stint to keep the airway from being sealed and subsequently keep the rest of the lung from collapsing. If successful, my father may not only be able to breathe easier but it may buy time to keep the cancer from destroying that airway and in turn kill him. However, as with any operation, there are risks. Without knowing if the tissue surrounding the stint is strong enough to withstand being ballooned open, the doctors have made us very aware that my father may not even survive the procedure, if something ruptures and he begins to bleed out, there is nothing the doctors will be able to do. This is a very terrifying and stressful time for my family and I, so I ask that you please keep my father in your thoughts and prayers tonight and tomorrow, and as always thank you for all of the love and support we have already received. We could not weather this storm without you. Please keep him and his family in your prayers today. They need all we can send them.
