PRESS RELEASE - JANUARY 16TH 2014 A meeting took place last night (Wednesday January 15th) between various groups concerned about this Governments flawed energy policy, focusing specifically on renewable energy infrastructure. Over 200 groups were represented including those opposed to industrial wind turbines and the associated Grid 25 plan which Eirgrid are pursuing in an attempt to link dispersed wind energy projects for domestic use and for export. Representatives from counties Mayo, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Wexford and Waterford expressed their outrage at the frightening scale of what was being foisted on the Irish people and landscape. There was broad agreement that Government policy had failed to honestly explain the linkage between Grid 25, massive planned wind turbine developments and numerous substations. There was also agreement that these plans represented an enormous threat to thousands of Irish families, our landscape and the economy. There is compelling evidence that wind energy is incapable of any meaningful reduction in CO2 emissions and along with the associated grid 25 developments will be hugely expensive and very damaging. The group intend to mount a joined up and vigorous campaign to stop this destructive and fatally flawed plan. END
