PRESS RELEASE TOP ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP 2014/15 The Ministry of Education and Skills Development through the Botswana Education Hub introduced Top Achievers Scholarship Programme for Botswana citizens with effect from 2010/2011 financial year. The scholarship is intended for a select number of students, who have just completed secondary education, with outstanding academic performance to pursue careers that are of strategic importance in terms of driving the economic diversification agenda of Botswana. The fields of study for the scholarship include Finance and Business, Engineering and Technology, Medical Sciences, and Natural Sciences. This initiative is aimed at motivating young people to excel in their studies, gain recognition, learn at the best environments to realize their potential, and ultimately to create a pool of exceptional leaders for the country over time. There are two categories of selection for eligible learners: CATEGORY A Students who have attained 6A* or equivalent in one sitting at BGCSE, IGCSE or equivalent in Mathematics, Sciences and Business related subjects. Students who have obtained a minimum of three ‘A’s at A-Level, 36 points at IBDP or equivalent. Learners in this category will be considered for external placement for tertiary education immediately. CATEGORY B Students who have attained at least 4A*s but fell short of 6A*s in one sitting at BGCSE, IGCSE or equivalent in Mathematics, Sciences and Business related subjects. Students in this category will be placed in the local institutions for A-Levels or IBDP and are eligible for external placement upon successful completion of A-Level or IBDP. Aspiring young people aiming to be considered for the 2014/15 Top Achievers Scholarship are requested to apply to the Botswana Education Hub outlining the following: • The BGCSE/IGCSE, A-Level, IBDP or equivalent results supported by a statement of results (to be submitted to BEH by schools or Botswana Examination Council upon release of results). • Evidence of involvement in community service and/or co-curricular activities • A certified copy of National Identity card (Omang) or birth certificate where the applicant has not reached 16 years. • Interested area of study. • Two references, one verifying academic prowess and the other involvement in community service and/or co-curricular activities. The deadline for submission of applications is immediately after the release of the BGCSE results, expected by end of February 2014. Applicants who have already received their results may start submitting their applications. Upon the release of the BGCSE results, applicants will be given a week to submit applications.
