PRESS STATEMENT BY U.S AMBASSADOR TO KENYA ON KILLING OF SHEIKH MOHAMED IDRISS. The United States condemns the murder of Council of Imam and Preachers of Kenya Chairman Sheikh Mohammed Idris in Likoni this morning. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Sheikh Idris. We call for calm and restraint on the coast, and underscore the need to prevent any possible spread of violence. Equally, we urge everyone to respect Kenya’s cultural and religious diversity, which is a source of Kenya’s strength. We call on the Kenyan government to undertake a full investigation of the murder and to hold those responsible accountable through the Kenyan justice system. - Robert F. Godec.
