PRIVATIZATION AND TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS WILL DESTROY THE USA! Our country has always been a mixture of social democracy and private ownership. From the very beginning certain social programs were written into the Constitution (e.g. The Post Office.) Other institutions followed that strengthened the nation; public schools and libraries, public roads and transport, social programs like Unemployment insurance, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, etc. (because using common resources (taxation) is the only way to organize such gargantuan efforts. If one relied upon charity to build our national highway system, you can be assured not much would be accomplished. It takes collective strength to manage a society. There are those today who will point to these programs and cry; ‘Socialism!’ (Which they equate with fascism or tyrants; as though these forms of collective action threaten a nation’s security.) Not true at all; in fact to eliminate socialism from a society is to create a totalitarian government, interested only in the growth of special interests where all profit and resources naturally gravitate to the upper strata of society. Modern man has forgotten the lessons that should have been learned from history. And the Republican mentality has embraced the wrong lessons. Nancy Forbush
