October 19th to 25th is Rotary Polio Week where we feature Rotarys campaign to eradicate polio. In addition to the DVD of Joan Toone entitled Putting A Face On Polio to be shown at this weeks meeting, Rotarians are invited to Chautauqua Elementary on Friday October 24th at 2:15 pm where Sophie Lipitz will be conducting her 7th and last Purple Pinkie fundraising in the 4th and 5th grade classes of her former school to help fight polio. This campaign has raised as much as $1000 annually. Vashon Rotary owes Sophie a great debt so please come on Friday to express our appreciation. Rotary Social will be on Friday November 7th at George and Carol Butlers home. Address is 26910 Vashon Highway SW which is 1/2 mile south of Inspiration Point. John Moore will show slides and comment upon his recent sailing trip up the Atlantic Coast. Three soups and stews from his ports of call will be provided along with bread/cheese and a green salad. Bring your favorite beverage. Dessert contributions are welcome. Rotary will do Wednesday night dinner on November 12th. the signup sheet will go out at this week’s meeting. Appreciation to Kathleen Davis for her outstanding presentation on our clubs water projects in Guatemala at last Thursdays evening meeting. There were 15 Rotarians and 20 other members of the community in attendance. It was a great opportunity to share with the island the projects in which we are involved and for Rotarians and guests to spend some quality social time together. If you couldnt make it, dont miss the next evening meeting on November 20th when the program will feature the culinary and wine making programs at South Seattle College.
