The expansion of check-in and pre-departure areas is expected to ease congestion in the regional airports. "As an interim solution to the urgent problem of passenger congestion, these semi-permanent terminal buildings will be installed to increase the capacity of the existing terminals," the bid notice stated. The notice further stated that the semi-terminals "can be fully-dismantled, transferred, and reused in other airports." Approved budgets for the Tacloban, Clark, and Puerto Princesa airport projects are ₱18.8 million, ₱27 million, and ₱22.7 million, respectively. Pre-bid conference is on June 11 and the deadline of submission and opening of bids is on June 24. Meanwhile, the deadline for the submission and opening of bids for two other airport projects was moved to later this month to give more time for groups to prepare bids, according to a DoTC statement issued June 4 and 6. The Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) moved the deadline for the ₱297-million airport and screening and security systems project to June 28 from June 17, while the ₱16-million upgrade of meteorological instruments in various airports was postponed to June 27 from June 13. The rescheduling was also upon the request of bidders. "The change in schedule [for the meteorological project] is due to the request of the interested groups…they want to do a site inspection of the eight airports first," DoTC Spokesman Michael Arthur C. Sagcal said in a text message yesterday. "There are two groups which bought the bid so far," he added without giving other details.
