PROMOTERS POINT- August 21, 2013! Another great Powder Puff in the books at the historic Mottville Speedway! A record 11 entries and another exciting race! Keri Martz was just outstanding in spinning out, getting back o the track over a half lap down and taking the win! Simply amazing! The Hornet feature was sure a great race! Rick Wolkens losing a tire and hitting the wall forced a caution and restart and Samantha Wolkens got the big break! Her car had been running hot but during the caution laps cooled down and she went on to yet another win! David Terry says he will have a new Hornet ride this Sunday and Joe Wilbur will be in his old ride! One thing we learned Sunday was that for the 3 Powder Puffs remaining we will run the Sportsmen feature just before the Powder Puff so the ladies can get in their cars and be ready to go on the track as soon as the Sportsmen feature is over. It was great having Charles back at the speedway Sunday but it was a long day for him since he had church, a family reunion in Ashley and then the track! A nice crowd on hand a good car count! We did not have to turn the lights on Sunday but it was close. But I would imagine they will be turned on each and every night the rest of the season from here on out! For all those wondering why we are sticking to racing October 19 and not switching to Oct 20 please read below! There are a lot of factors you are not considering when it comes to the AC. First of all my experience at SBMS is that night after night only about half the cars finish a feature. So considering this is an end of season race I really would expect less than half to finish and that means we very well might not have enough cars running to be able to run on Sunday. 2. Running Sunday means no rain date! 3. If SB gets rained out on Saturday they run Sunday so no change at all, still both tracks running. 4. Somehow it does not seem fair to me that I run 35 nights per season, year in and year out and these 3 Amigos come along and run one race per year and I am expected to move my schedule for them!! 5. Saturdays are always better then Sundays!! Now I fully expect to lose money on October 19 but not as much as I would lose on Oct 20.I might also point out last year when the AC was run in September not a single track in the area was running that night! Had the AC been on Sunday this year there would not have been a conflict but I understand why they do not want to run on Sunday because I don’t either! Yet, last year’s AC was most certainly successful! You know most of this summer Angola, Galesburg, Kalamazoo, M40, New Paris, South Bend and Baer Field all ran on Saturday night. I am guessing 450- to 500 cars! All we want are 25 cars on October 19 and that leaves well over 400 for the AC! Our schedule was out in January and we have not changed the dates! Anyway, I am sure the AC will be a smashing success and I am sure we will survive at the historic Mottville Speedway! Most people probably can not really appreciate how tough it is to run a Sunday night track! People like to do things on Sunday other than race! Often you are at a huge disadvantage on cars because of crashes and mechanical woes on Friday and Saturday A perfect example of that was August 11 when we had 10 Sportsmen and August 18 when we had 3! .So when we get the chance to race on a Saturday we take it! I would think there are drivers who would prefer not to run in a two day race but time will tell. South Bend Motor Speedway ended their racing season on a high note Friday night! A huge crowd was on hand as well as over 80 cars! What a way to finish the season! I had a long talk with Steve Brown and know he was a very happy man! Great to see a track end their season like that! At the historic Mottville Speedway we will continue racing through the first week of November but when school starts the crowds drop dramatically we will need to make some adjustments to our pay-off to be able to stay open when other tracks close. The pay-off adjustment will be starting September 1. We will pay the best we can if we should get a big crowd one night we can always increase the pay for sure! Otherwise we would be closing Labor Day week-end for sure! August 25 its Sportsmen, Mini Stocks, Mini Thunder Cars, Hornets and Karts for another 5 in one program! The remaining Powder Puffs are September 15 and 29 and October 19. Monday, September 2 Walkerton Auto Repair-Jack and Jody Hurford-are sponsoring the Labor Day Trophy Night! Hot laps Thursday from 6 PM to dark! Night number 23 is Sunday, open 4:30 PM and race 6 PM! I am super excited! What about you?
