PROUD to call him, FRIEND. . .The Sandwich Man of Hallowell, Kansas * “SAD PASSING of a SOUTHEAST KANSAS Icon” O:) ~ R.I.P. Angelo Sachetta (September 1, 1916 – June 1, 2014) ♥ ANGELO SACHETTA, 97 of Frontenac formerly of Hallowell, died at 2:25 a.m. Sunday June 1, 2014 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac. He was born September 1, 1916 in Roseland, KS the son of Louie and Angeline (Palumbo) Sachetta. Angelo was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the United States Army from 1941-1945. He married Edith Ferraro on August 27, 1947 at the St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Scammon, KS; she survives at the home. Angelo was the owner/operator of Angelos Grocery/Gas/Deli for 31 years in Hallowell; and prior to that he was a meat cutter working for Simones IGA in Weir and Safeway. He was a member of the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego, KS; the Keith Reeves American Legion Post of Columbus and the Columbus VFW Post 1372. Survivors include his wife Edith of the home; 2 brothers Louis GiGi Sachetta of Scammon; William Bill Sachetta of Delaware; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Dorothy Boyce, Maxine Johnson, 3 brothers Frank, Pete and Alfred Sachetta. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday June 5, 2014 at the St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Scammon with Father Larry Parker as celebrant. Father Thomas Stroot and Father Chrysostom Ah Maung will also celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in the St. Bridgets Cemetery, where the Columbus American Legion will provide flag folding and military honors presentation. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus where the family will receive friends following until 7 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Condolences can be sent to bathnaylor Memorial contributions can be made to either Masses the Mother of God Catholic Church of Oswego or a parish of the donors choice. Memorials may be brought by or mailed to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S. East Ave. Columbus, KS.
