PSL should be staged in Pakistan, insists Miandad ISLAMABAD: Batting legend Javed Miandad has stressed that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) should be held in Pakistan, noting the contest in the country can attract a lot of foreign players in future, once it is leashed. Responding to a recent statement issued by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi that all the ground work has been done for the PSL and it will be launched in January next year in the UAE, Miandad said: “The PSL should be played in Pakistan as it is our own league. To stage it in the UAE will not end the country’s drought of international cricket. “At least the PCB should take the initiative and see how it goes in Pakistan. I am sure once the league starts it will attract a lot of foreign players, retired or domestic,” the 124-Test veteran pointed out. Miandad, who functioned as PCB director general in the past, added: “We can put our domestic players together with the national team players in the PSL which will boost the [domestic] players’ morale and self-belief to tackle opponents of higher standard. “Our national team players are by no means no lesser than other [international team] players and they can help boost the domestic players’ confidence,” he emphasised. Speaking on the PCB expecting to generate a massive revenue from six Indo-Pak bilateral series during the 2015-2023 period for which an agreement has been signed between the PCB and the BCCI recently, Miandad said if those contests materialised it would be very good. However, he added: “But it’s not the money that people want to see, it’s cricket between Pakistan and India which is the dire need of the hour.” On Pakistan cricket, Miandad said a committee, which he said existed during the tenure of previous PCB chief, comprising prominent former cricketers should be revived. “I headed that committee and it proved very beneficial,” he reckoned, claiming he could fix Pakistan cricket in six months. Miandad further said he had also given a formula to Najam Sethi on how to bring Pakistan cricket back on track. Dawn
