#PUK asks for immediate aid & support for #YPG The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has officially asked the United States, Europe & #Turkey to help the Peoples Protection Units (YPG) as the Islamic State of Iraq & Sham (#ISIS) continues a deadly onslaught against the Kurdish population of Kobane. The ISIS has taken 16 villages from the YPG in the last 48 hours, and are said to be closing in on the YPG stronghold of Kobane, located along the Turkish - Syrian border. Local Turkish residents confirmed earlier rumours that Turkey was supposedly helping to move ISIS troops inside Turkey. The PUK warned immediate action was needed to avert a humanitarian disaster, We have spoken to the #US government to warn of the impending disaster that will happen unless Turkey opens its borders. The PUK also asks Turkey to open its borders to allow refugees to cross the border as thousands have fled from areas now under the control of ISIS. The PUK statement added We call on the Turkish government to immediately open the border to refugees fleeing ISIS in Kobane. The other ruling Kurdish parties, including the Kurdistan Democratic Party (#KDP) led by KRG president Masoud Barzani was also asked to support the YPG, We call on the KDP, Gorran & Islamic parties to also join us in urging Turkey to help avert an impending disaster, and to allow refugees into Turkey. The KDP has in recent years moved the KRG closer to the Turkish government. The border to their Kurdish brethren in Syria has been closed by the KDP for over 16 months now. The statement ended by calling for Kurdish unity in this hour of need, stating now is not the time for political or ideological differences to even be considered as a factor in our decision making process, on the contrary, it is a historic opportunity to show the world that Kurds can be united. Kobane is no different to Kirkuk, and it is the duty of all Kurds to rise up to this threat and help our brothers and sisters in Rojava to protect themselves.
