PUTNAMCOUNTY — Marla E. Whitaker was arrested Monday at the Fall Creek Inn on child abuse/neglect charges. According to the affidavit, officer Shannon Smith, of the Cookeville Police Department, was patrolling the area when he observed a vehicle with the door open and later found the door to still be open with a two-year-old female alone in the vehicle when he came back around several minutes later. Smith checked the child and “observed that she was scratching her arms and legs and was bleeding from her left rear calf,” according to the affidavit. The affidavit also states that Whitaker came out of a room and stated she was planning to take the child to the doctor. The affidavit also states that “EMS responded and advised that the child needed immediate medical attention for the infection that was on all parts of her body.” Smith also found parts of a needle and plunge in the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
