Paddington was a surprisingly delightful film. In an era with gritty reboots and loose pop culture stained adaptations (The Smurfs), its extremely refreshing to see something that stays fantastically true to the source material while taking only liberties that actually enhances the overall experience. The Paddington Film, is THE Paddington that we grew up to know and love, with all of his charming naive intact, while simultaneously introducing a refreshed Brown family that have their own endearing traits that take on old school archetypes. Even the villain, though very one dimensional, actually works within the context and tone of the film, which does not fall out of place in the cartoons. Peter Capaldi, who will be playing the Twelfth Doctor in the acclaimed Dr Who series, shows of a very comedic side that will give you a taste of what he might be like as the Time Lord. This film reminds us that a plot does not have to be complicated, does not have to be boringly logical to suspend disbelief (Theres a talking bear walking around and no one bats an eye!) and just has to have the right amount of charm, fun, love and wit to succeed. The entire film falls on old school tropes and plot development, and Ill be damned that this is absolutely incredible to watch in this day and age! This is by and large, a very entertaining British film, and I think we can now always trust that the Brits know how to handle a beloved franchise well. With this film, I have a feeling we might have hope with the new Peanuts movie; and if there is ever a new Madeline film, I want these guys to produce it.
