Painting in Andalucía One of the most popular mediums for amateur artists is watercolour; being an unpredictable medium that has fascinated artists for hundreds of years. It is said by many that painting with watercolour can never be fully mastered or conquered. The accidental effects and unpredictable behaviour of the different pigments are what make it so interesting and the intrigue of watercolour comes from experimentation and discovery. Most artists find that the light in Andalucía is ideal for watercolour painting and the beautiful landscape in the surrounding countryside to Cortijo Huerto lends itself ideally to the art. Painting in watercolour requires very few materials: - Brushes: Such as a number 2 fine liner brush and 1 flat brush - Paint: Burnt Sienna, Indigo and more - Paper: 1 sheet of 300 gsm paper - White plastic plate or a flat lid for a palette - Masking tape and a piece of cardboard to tape down the paper - Old towel to cover the work table and wipe the brush on - A pencil Only buy the best you can afford, but remember, some of the most beautiful and expressive paintings were done on cave walls with mud and a stick! In many of the local towns in the region, art classes are offered for a very low cost to both residents and visitors at various times of the year. In some larger towns and cities there are thriving art centres which have classes in several media, including watercolour, oils and sculpture too. So, it is an easy choice to include this delightful hobby which is creative, stimulating and satisfying, as part of a visit to Andalucía.
