Paratam Fortuna Adiuvat: Fortune favors the Prepared I have been - TopicsExpress

Paratam Fortuna Adiuvat: Fortune favors the Prepared I have been doing a lot of thinking about the events leading up to the shooting of Trayvon Martin. And I’ve been asking myself the question, “Could this have been avoided?” The conclusion I came up with was “Yes and no.” That may be a bit confusing because Zimmerman was, after all, acting in self-defense. Here is my thinking on the matter, and I’ll start with why it wasn’t avoidable. The outcome of the physical altercation between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman was unavoidable because of what is called a disparity of force. Now, even though Zimmerman was physically bigger than Martin, he was not as fit as Martin was and there was therefore a “disparity of force”. Testimony in the trial revealed that Zimmerman was in very poor physical condition and probably wouldn’t be able to win any kind of fight. As a result, Mr. Zimmerman was not able to sufficiently defend himself from the violent attack launched by Trayvon. Fearing for his life, the only option left was to pull his gun and fire on the teen. So, given the disparity of force between the two Mr. Zimmerman was justified in his actions. But this is where we come to the “Yes this could have been avoided” part of my conclusion. This whole mess could potentially have been avoided if George Zimmerman had been in better physical condition. Now, he had allegedly started MMA training just days before the shooting so maybe his goal was to get in better shape. But that would be pure speculation on my part. But what I can say is that if his level of fitness had been higher, Zimmerman would have had a better chance of overpowering Martin and restraining him until police arrived. I think we can all agree that this would have been a better outcome. So what does the Trayvon/Zimmerman narrative tell us? BE PREPARED! Infinium Tactical’s slogan is “Paratam Fortuna Adiuvat” or “Fortune favors the Prepared.” Don’t rely too much on your gun. Prepare yourself by advancing your handgun skills as I mentioned in an earlier post, but also prepare yourself physical by working out and acquainting yourself with open hand methods. And here’s some food for thought. You will always fall back on your training when you are under stress. If you’ve only trained to shoot, then that’s what you will do. I’ll talk more about this in my next post. Stay safe, keep training, and be prepared!
