#PartTimeHeroes Week 5, Day 1 Day 1 - Read Judges 6:1-10 Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord. Before you get on your high horse and ask how they could do this again after God had just delivered them ask yourself how often you find yourself turning away from God after he continually shows up in your life. And what does Israel do when then find themselves away from God (the source of all good) and in the path of their enemies? They do what humans have been doing since Adam and Eve when they run from God...they hide. They hide in caves and mountain clefts. Alone. Sound familiar? How often do you run from the good God wants to offer you only to find yourself alone, afraid, and hiding from everyone? What a depressing end. When Israel thought they were finding freedom, independence, and autonomy what they really found was that they were alone and in need. So they called out to God...again. So God, ticked off with their infidelity, ignored their call and left them to fend for themselves and they were annihilated by the Midianites. "Serves them right," He says. NO! God in His great mercy and with great sadness came again to the rescue of His people. God is full of mercy and love for His people! He just wants our love in return! God wants you to come out of hiding, to call on His name and to seek Him out and He will find you and deliver you! Ask God to deliver you today. Ask for forgiveness for running from Him. Thank Him for being merciful, for sending the ultimate rescuer, Jesus, who frees us from our true enemy...our own sin!
