Parvez Imroz arrested and released Bar Association condemns the arrest of noted lawyer => Kashmir Bar Association while condemning the arrest of Human Rights Activist and noted lawyer, Parvez Imroz Tuesday claimed that the police officer who misbehaved with the lawyer belongs to National Conference. Imroz was arrested by police by police after he allegedly tore the uniform of Dy SP Traffic, Reyaz Ahmed Halwai near exhibition crossing. Coalition of Civil Society however refuted the charges of Halwai that Imroz assaulted him. “It was the police officer who hurled abuses and foul language and directed police station Sher Gari to arrest the noted lawyer,” CCS said. Eyewitness told CNS that Imroz was taken to custody soon after Halwai complained that Imroz assaulted him when he stopped his vehicle. A police official said that an FIR vide 353/2013 was registered against the Imroz for assaulting a government official on duty. “A case was registered against him, however he was released late on,” he said. Meanwhile, Kashmir Bar Association while condemning the assault and detention of Parvez Imroz said that the Bar shall file a complaint for physical assault and illegal arrest of Parvaiz Imroze against the said delinquent official who happens to be son of National Conference worker, Late Mohammad Yousuf Halwayi. Bar Association in the meeting observed that the said police official bearers hatred against the people of J&K and in order to satisfy his ego is always abusing and harassing the senior citizens in order to seek avenge of the death of his father Late Mohammad Yousuf Halwayi who was killed by unidentified gunmen in early 90’s. “Today morning when the said Advocate was going to attend a matter of serious nature of human rights violation which was fixed before the Hon’ble High Court and the assault seems to stop the advocate from reaching the court to attend the matter. This assault and two hour long unlawful detention of Parvaiz Imroze in the police station Shergari amounts to interruption in due discharge of duties of a lawyer and interruption in dispensation of justice. The Bar Association views the matter very serious as an insult to the lawyers community besides an interference in justice delivery system by the erring police official and the Bar Association as such has decided to take up the matter at all levels besides seeking legal action against the said delinquent official,” KBA said. In the meeting it was also decided to participate in the mass protests against the continued spate of innocent killings by the Indian army in the nook and corner of the Kashmir valley and as such all the lawyers were requested to participate in the mass protests proposed on Friday the 7th of July 2013. The Bar Association has decided to take up the matter of physical assault and illegal detention of Parvaiz Imroze before all International Human Rights Agencies including Amnesty International, UN Human Rights Commission, and Asia Watch in particular and accordingly appeal is made to all these international agencies to intervene in the matter in bringing the erring official to justice.
