Pastor’s Moment: Nehemiah is a book in the bible that is written to teach us that only with Gods help can we actually change ourselves and recover from the damage and ruin of the past. I am retelling the story of Nehemiah because I am a firm believer that we can literally rebuild our walls. You will never build the walls of your life until you have first become greatly concerned about the ruins. Have you ever taken a good look at the ruins in your own life? Have you looked at the possibilities that God gave you in your life, and seen how far you have deviated from that potential? You can never take up a challenge without getting tired with your present. You must get tired of something to move to the next, In one of the most brilliant essays I have ever read of the bible, a scholar writes, “If the walls of your life have crumbled -- if your defence is weak and you are always in trouble - I suggest you pay special heed to the process of reconstruction set forth in the book of Nehemiah” In acceptable liturgy there exists the Nehemiah prayer, I call you today to recite it with me; “Our Father, we thank you for this look into your word, into the truth that affects our own lives. We pray that we, also, may learn as Nehemiah did to be disciplined, courageous, confident in you, and willing to say no, willing to be absolutely ruthless against the forces that would undermine and sap the vitality of our lives in you.
