Pats Weekly Diary - October 20, 2014 We began the week on the west bank playing a huge wedding at the Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation in Waggaman. Weve played there once before. Its a beautiful place. Good food. The reception was fantastic. I was told as we were leaving, you guys are by far the fastest band around. Saturday was another wedding at Walk Ons on Poydras St. upstairs in the Rampart Room. Our first time there. Its one of those places thats a little difficult to get in and out of with the equipment. You gotta hold up traffic and unload in the street. But this too was a great fantastic wedding. The bride and groom must have been reading one of my old diaries about how to get your wedding party started because they did as Ive been preaching for years. I know Im repeating myself but… after the special dances if the couple (especially the bride) just stays on the dance floor for a few songs (it forces people to come to them) and the dancing starts right away. Simple. Dont go right away to eat or take more pictures. This theory will be the main focus of the wedding book Ill write someday. Speaking of pictures…allow me to get this off my chest. Usually at these wedding receptions our stage area is going to be very small. Some of the stages we play on are so small that the neck of my bass will be sticking out past the PA or my microphone stand. Now every wedding photographer has this… Im not sure what its called… this long pole thing with the light on top. I dont know why but it seems like every one of them insist on putting that thing so near to me that if I turn ever so slightly that thing is going to the floor. Believe me Ive knocked over at least three of those things over the years. Seriously… do you have to put it right there? Wouldnt it be better to place that thing on the opposite side of the stage where there is nothing extending out past the stage and no chance of that thing being knocked over. Thanks… I feel better now. Sunday was just a beautiful evening at the St. Edwards Couchon de Lait. Its at least 20 years weve been closing this fair. Its always one of the biggest fairs well play. The weather was perfect and the fair ground was packed. And lastly we want to congratulate Roberts daughter Chelsey and her husband David as the delivered into the Topcats family a beautiful healthy baby girl on Sunday morning. Well see you at Rock n Bowl on Friday.
