Paul Venkat SOURCES OF POWER IN GOD’S KINGDOM The Bible says that the Kingdom of God is spiritual. What we call a spiritual kingdom here, is nothing but the extension of Heaven on earth. In other words, the spiritual kingdom transcends worldly kingdoms. Once a man is born into the Kingdom of God through rebirth, he is able to discern the sources of power in the spiritual Kingdom of God. The Spirit of God also created man as a spiritual being. Spiritual is eternal and also indestructible. The spiritual is also superior to the physical, because the spiritual created the physical. The spiritual power or force is locked up in a variety of things such as the word of God, praise, Holy Spirit, blood of Jesus Christ, name of Jesus, Prayer, fasting, unity, love, faith, spoken word, thoughts, sowing, giving, returning good for evil, tongue and gospel. When once we know the sources of spiritual power, we can release the spiritual power in them by following the Word of God. John 8:32 says, ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Truth is always hidden and mysterious. Unless we search for truths, we cannot find them. When we diligently seek, the Holy Spirit will enlighten us as to these truths. All these sources of power listed in this book are available to a born again and spirit-filled believer. As the knowledge of these sources of power increases, one will be able to increase and grow in these dimensions of power and use them to live a victorious and successful life overcoming all temptations and evils. A. THE POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD The Bible says that the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrew 4:12). The Word of God is truth, life and spirit (John 14:6). The Word of God (gospel) has power to convert souls (Romans 1:16) and to heal the sick (Psalm 107:20). The Word of God has power to produce faith in people as they hear them (Romans 10:17). The Word of God also has creative power. God spoke the world into existence through His word. The spoken Word of God also has power to destroy. When Jesus cursed the fig tree, it was withered to its roots (Mark 11:20). The word of God has the power to nourish the spirit of man (I Peter 2:2). The word of God has power to sanctify, cleanse and purify our souls. (Psalm 119:9, John 15:3, John 17:17 and I Peter 1:22). B. THE POWER OF PRAISE The praises of men bring the presence of God, dispelling the presence of the evil one. The Bible says that God inhabits the praises of His children (Psalm 22:3). The devil cannot stay when people begin to praise God. C. THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The Bible says in Acts 1:8 that ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you. Luke 24:49 says that ye shall be endued with power from on high when ye receive the promise of the Father. When a person is filled with the Holy Spirit, he also begins to exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These nine gifts mentioned in I Corinthians 12:8-10 are supernatural gifts of God. These gifts include the power to prophesy, speaking in diverse tongues, interpreting unknown tongues, healing, performing miracles, receiving a word of knowledge, receiving wisdom, living in faith and discerning spiritual things. The Bible says in Isaiah 10:27 that the anointing of the Holy Spirit shall destroy the yoke of the enemy. Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit and to receive Him, before going into all the world to preach the gospel. D. THE POWER OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST The Bible says that the blood of Jesus Christ has power to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:7) Because Jesus Christ was absolutely sinless He shed his blood for the remission of our sins. I Peter 1:19 says that the blood of Jesus Christ was precious and it was without blemish and without spot. Leviticus 7:11 says that the life of the flesh is in the blood and that it is the blood which makes an atonement for the soul. In Matthew 26:28 Jesus said, "This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins". Acts 20: 28 says that Jesus Christ purchased the Church of God with His own blood. Romans 3: 24-25 says that we are justified and redeemed by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through faith in His blood. Romans 5: 9 says that we are justified by His blood. Ephesians 1: 7 says that we have redemption and forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace through His blood. Ephesians 2: 13 says those who were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Colossians 1: 20 says the peace and reconciliation has been made between man and God through the blood of His cross. Hebrews 9: 22 says that without shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. Hebrews 10: 19 says that the blood of Jesus Christ gives us the boldness to enter into the holiness. I Peter 1: 2 says that through the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ grace and peace shall be multiplied to us. I John 1:7 says that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sins. Revelation 1: 5 says that Jesus Christ who loved us has washed us from our sins in His own blood. All these scriptures indicate the cleansing, redeeming, atoning, sanctifying, purchasing, justifying and overcoming power of the blood of Jesus Christ. E. THE POWER OF THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST The Bible says that neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given unto men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Further, in the Bible it is stated that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, things on earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10,11). Jesus commanded His disciples to cast the demons out in His name and to heal all manner of sicknesses (Mark 16:17). Jesus also said if you shall ask anything in my name, it shall be done of my Father in heaven (John 14:13). F. THE POWER OF PRAYER Prayer has a tremendous spiritual power. Through prayer a believer has access to the throne of grace. We can literally fellowship and communicate with God through prayer. The Bible says the prayer of faith shall avail much. The Bible guarantees answers to the prayers prayed with faith and according to the will of God (Mark 11:24). There is also a greater power when two people agree on something and pray (Matthew 19:18). There is even greater power when a group of people gather and pray in one accord. G. THE POWER OF FASTING When we fast and pray, a greater spiritual force is released. On one occasion, when the disciples asked Jesus why they could not cast the demons out, He said that a certain kind of demons will not go without fasting. Through fasting, people have been able to reach greater spiritual heights, get spiritually stronger and even hear choirs of angels sing. Jesus fasted forty days and forty nights. Moses spent forty days and forty nights at the top of Mount Sinai without any food or water. There are innumerable examples in the Bible about the servants of God fasting for varied lengths of times with definite results. H. THE POWER OF UNITY There is great power in unity and agreement and that is the reason why Satan tries to divide and scatter people, while the Holy Spirit tries to gather and unite them. As we have seen earlier, when even two people agree on earth in prayer, the Word of God says that, such a prayer will have more effect in getting the answer. On the day of Pentecost, 120 believers gathered in one place and prayed in one accord. In the book of Acts, we read in several places about the power that operated when the early Christians gathered together in one place and prayed. God said when the children of God gathered together to build the tower of Babel with one heart and one mind, whatever they imagined they could do (Genesis 11:6). There is always strength and power in unity. I. THE POWER OF LOVE Love is perhaps the most powerful energy that is there in this universe. Love is a spiritual force. The Bible says, love is of God and God is love (I John 4:7 & . When man is not able to win his enemy even by using the most powerful weapon in this world, the Bible says he can overcome through love. Even for faith to operate in our lives, we have to exercise love. In I Corinthians 13, the Bible says that love never fails which means that love always wins. If there is one thing that men cannot resist, that is the love of God. In Romans 5:5, it is written that God shed abroad his love in our hearts. Therefore, a measure of this powerful energy of God is given to every man to be used in all situations towards all men, particularly against enemies, as a source of power and as a weapon. J. THE POWER OF FAITH Mark 9:23 says that all things are possible for him that believeth. Faith is another source of spiritual power that is available to a believer. The Bible says in Romans 12:3, that God has dealt a measure of faith to all men. The Bible says that even if we have a little faith like a mustard seed, we can move mountains. Faith is the key to receiving all blessings from God. Faith gives us the power to appropriate the promises of God. While every believer is endowed with a measure of faith, God has also ordained a way to grow in faith. The Bible says in Romans 10:17, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Faith is also given to some specific individuals at certain times in a greater measure, as a gift. Faith has the power to counteract doubt, fear and unbelief. K. THE POWER OF THE TONGUE Proverb 18:21 says that death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruits thereof. The power of tongue is also described in the third chapter of the book of James. Tongue has the power to set on fire the course of nature. The power of tongue can work either way. It may operate positively or negatively. James 3:8 says that tongue is an unruly member and is full of poison, and that it is possible to tame wild beasts in the forest, but it is impossible to control this little member in the body. Like the little helm in the ship that controls the whole ship and the little bit in the horse’s mouth that controls the whole body of the horse, the tongue which is a small member in the body of the human being has power to control his whole life. According to the scientists, the word that is spoken cannot be destroyed. In other words, every word that we speak encircles the globe and with appropriate technological device, they can even recapture and replay them. In Mark 11:23, Jesus said that we shall have whatever we say when we speak. It is like issuing a proclamation or giving a command in the spiritual realm, and the angels, the ministering spirits, execute these orders. The centurion (Matthew knowing the power of the spoken word, told Jesus that if He would speak a word only, his servant would be healed in his house. So, every word that we speak is like a seed that is sown and it will produce some fruit. L. THE POWER OF THOUGHT Every thought and every imagination of man has power. In Proverb 23:7, it is written that for as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. In other words, the thoughts of man create things into being. In Isaiah 14:22, it is written that what we think will come to pass and in Proverbs 16:3, it is written that our thoughts shall be established. There is a saying in this world that what a man can imagine, he can do. All that we say and do in our life, begins initially as a thought. Therefore, if we can control our thoughts, we can control our life. By having the mind of Christ and thinking His thoughts in line with His Word, we can bring into our life the blessings of God. M. THE POWER IN GIVING The Bible says in Luke 6:38, give, and it shall be given back to you; a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom. Malachi 3:10 says, bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Giving is a spiritual act. When we give, it is like sowing a seed in God’s Kingdom and the seed will produce a hundredfold yield. In Mark 10:29-30, it is written that what all we give (lose or forsake for the sake of the kingdom of God) will be given back to us hundred times in this life and later. The Bible says in II Corinthians 9:6 that he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully, shall reap also bountifully. Giving gives us power to become prosperous. The Bible says that only by giving, we get and only by losing, we gain. - E N D -
