Paula Kahumbu JUST IN Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities-Uganda East African Community Partner States have agreed on a regional strategy to combat poaching and wildlife trafficking in the five Countries of the EAC. Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi technical officials have agreed on a road map to route wildlife crime from the region. Some of the measures agreed upon by the partner states include; -Harmonization of Policies and Laws, -Enhancement of law enforcement capacity (skills , numbers and equipment/technology capacity) -Strengthened regional and International Collaboration in operations, intelligence, stockpile registering and monitoring -Capacity development of Judicial officers and law enforcement organs in the wildlife crime management -Awareness campaigns targeting all stakeholders including Governments of the source markets. -Promotion of research on market chains of highly demanded wildlife products right from source markets to the production regions. The road map was agreed upon in Moshi under the aegis East African Community.
