Pavement Reconstruction Project Will Require Weekend Closure of James Street – Newport Newport–The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that a pavement reconstruction project will require the closure of James Street between Justis Street and Market Street in Newport. The road will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 6 until 6 a.m. on Monday, September 9 AND 9 a.m. on Friday, September 13 until 6 a.m. on Monday, September 16. In the event of inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled to the next weekend. The contractor for these improvements is JJID Inc. In an effort to minimize the impact to the traveling public, the work will be accomplished during the weekends. Motorists are advised to reduce their speed as they travel through the work zone. Variable message boards will be posted to alert the public of the upcoming closure. Police and flaggers will be on site to direct motorists. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will operating in close proximity to the travel lanes. Detour: Motorists will be directed to use W. Justis Street (Route 4 westbound) to the u-turn located at Richards Drive, then continue on W. Market Street (Route 4 eastbound) returning to James Street for the end of the detoured pathway.
