Peggy Eppig will be leading a full day workshop titled Land Ethic Experience and Education at the Thursday Professional Development Institute of the 2014 MAEOE Conference. This workshop will explore some of the foundations of modern environmentalism. For more information and to register for the 2014 MAEOE Conference, visit MAEOE.org/Conference Description: This workshop serves as an introduction to the history of agricultural conservation and the development of Aldo Leopolds ideas of a land ethic. It will promote programs and initiatives developed by MAEF, the Leopold Foundation, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service that help teachers (formal and informal) bring the land ethic into their landscape management work with students. Participants will be able to view the PBS film Green Fire. Teachers will participate in a variety of Leopold Education Curriculum activities in natural history observation, systems thinking, policy (action), and methods for interpreting agricultural history for todays conservation issues. All participants receive a copy of A Sand County Almanac and we will examine Leopolds writings closely to discover how his experiences informed his thinking about how people interact with landscapes.
