Peninsula Drive Closes Due To Separate Incidents Wednesday, December 10th - Shortly after 7am, WRFD was dispatched to West 23rd Street and Peninsula Drive on a report a wires down. Captain 1 arrived on location and upon investigating, found that a large dump truck had snagged wires with the bucket that held up traffic lights at the intersection. As a result, several traffic lights were either broken or pulled down to the ground. The pole as well was also severely damaged. With low hanging wires and debris in the middle of the roadway, it was decided that Peninsula Drive southbound would have to be closed. As crews were attempting to clear the roadway, a tractor trailer ended up getting caught on a low hanging guide wire. The guide wire was then cut and temporary tied off. Once the tractor trailer was free, the same tractor trailer ended up getting caught on another low hanging wire 1 block south. This caused an utility pole to become bent at the base. As a result, Peninsula Drive both north and south was closed from West 12th Street to West 26th Street. Multiple side streets were also closed as to prevent any vehicle(s) from entering the intersection. Crews then worked with PennDOT, Millcreek Police, Millcreek Streets, and Time Warner Cable to make the roadway vehicle safe. Truck 477, Truck 478 along with Fire Police remained on location for several hours. Peninsula Drive was back open to traffic around 12pm.
