People dishonestly (or ignorantly) conflate infant adoption with foster care. I saw that in the discussions around various articles published on liberal and/or feminist sites about the racial disparity in fees for infant adoption. People could not wrap their brains around the idea that the kids winding up in foster care and the babies sold to adopters by adoption agencies--oh, sorry, my bad, the agencies "charge a fee for services rendered"--are two entirely different populations, that a parent neglectful enough to lose their child to the foster care system is not a parent who cares enough to worry that they might not be good enough, therefore giving their child to someone who they perceive *is*. (That assumes, of course, that every parent losing their child to foster care deserves to lose the child, which is not always true. But many of them do, in some form or fashion.)
