People have been asking Peter what he would like lately and he keeps replying “well a drop of rain would be nice” so when his friends, family and fellow farmers gathered to celebrate his 60th birthday last night guess what they all brought with them? The downpour stopped just in time to allow guests safe passage into the barn which was decorated in the farming theme. Country bunting hanging from the beams with balloons in shades of gold and brown tied down by hessian bags and sprigs of wheat provided by KWF. Peter loves his farm machinery and understands the importance of good oiling so as guests arrived they were treated to a tempting Pimms reception, with the original No.1 cup served alongside the sweet and summery Blackberry and Elderflower variety and there was plenty to go around. The Jagerbomb record was safe but the Pimms record came under serious fire with some handy shots in good form! Farmers also appreciate the importance of feeding stock so guests were treated to chicken, sausages, halloumi skewers and succulent steak alongside their salads, and it was not long before some proper country strawberries and cream were served from the barbecue lodge to finish. We didn’t let Peter run the risk of lighting his own candles, he needed to save his strength to blow out all 3? and cut the birthday cake which perfectly depicted him out shooting. That’s Maria Clouting’s third cake delivered to us this week and the one time Kev was actually allowed a slice! The chat and laughter on the lawn continued long into the evening before guests moved inside where our house DJ kept everyone entertained. Happy birthday Peter from all at Southwood Hall, it was certainly a pleasure to host this proper Norfolk affair!
