Perkins police officers on Friday busted an organized criminal ring operation specializing in theft and fraud. All told, police arrested three Michigan residents and charged them with a slew of misdemeanors and felonies. Group members — recognized as wanted suspects by the FBI — are suspected of being involved in multiple theft cases in Michigan and Ohio. Among those charged in Perkins Township and what police officers allegedly confiscated from them: • Tirzah R. Scott, 42, DETROIT, Mich., identify theft, possessing criminal tools, obstructing official business and complicity to theft. On her possession, officers found $418 in cash, four cellphones, 1 Michigan identification card belonging to someone else, nine prepaid Visa debit cards, a Meijer gift card, 12 miscellaneous gift cards and unpaid items from Bath & Body Works and Victorias Secret. • Dontez Sam-Oscar Patton, 23, Woodhaven, Mich., engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, crack possession, aggravated trafficking, dangerous drug possession, tampering with evidence, criminal tools possession, identity theft, two-count theft and marijuana possession. On his possession, officers found $660 in cash, crack cocaine, baggie of marijuana, 65 pills in bottle, a cellphone, two pairs of high-end headphones, at least 24 Visa debit and gift cards and miscellaneous Kalahari cards. • Rodney Haynes, 37, DETROIT Mich., obstructing justice, forgery and failure to disclose personal information. The group of three were also with several other people who were not charged — but still could be. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges could be forthcoming, Perkins police Detective Jonah Roesch said. We are still trying to determine the involvement of other people, who have not been identified through this entire spree. The extent of everyones involvement has not been determined. We have not gotten to the bottom of this. Around 6:30 a.m. Friday, police personnel began searching for one person from this group, Patton, after he supposedly stole a deluxe vacuum cleaner from Meijer — a calling card, or a common item members involved with this group have stolen from other stores. Commanders and officers then launched an all-out search to find him and possibly his accomplices. Later in the afternoon, officers received a call from the Sandusky Mall. A person of similar characteristics to Pattons was reportedly inside the mall either stealing or trying to fraudulently purchase electronics from a Best Buy mobile store. The person in question ended up being Patton, according to police. After leaving the mall, officers later tracked down Patton near Outback Steakhouse. Upon spotting officers, Patton — who reportedly dumped unpaid merchandise, including headphones, in nearby bushes —ran away, and a foot chase ensued. Officers eventually caught up to Patton. In the end, police arrested him along with Scott and Haynes. Its not clear how many other stores these three, or others from this group, have stolen from or how long theyve been suspected of committing such actions. Perkins police didnt make the police report public until Wednesday morning. As of Wednesday, both Scott, on a $17,000 bond, and Patton, on a $71,000 bond, remain in the Erie County jail. Scott is also being held in Erie County on a no bond from past offenses in Toledo, Indiana and Michigan. It appears Haynes posted bond, totaling $21,500, sometime within the past week. sanduskyregister/news/law-enforcement/7157286
