Peter Pettigrew- err, I mean Kapil Sibal requested EC to take strict action against Modi for using religious symbols for election campaigning by bringing in a picture of Sri Rama. What this dunderhead doesnt realize is that in the country we come from, one does not separate cultural icons such as Sri Rama from our Indian paradigm. Rama, being maryAdA purshottam is an ideal for many qualities we aspire for- humility, strength, intelligence, valor, wisdom and a perfected man of dharma. It is quite acceptable- even encouraged- to have such images in rallies. Moreover, Rama is a pan-Indian figure, and Hindus do *NOT* make a distinction between their nations culture and religion. Same also applies to the image of bhArat mAtA and other symbols which hold special meaning for us. Once we start distancing our culture from popular discourse, were lost. Tomorrow, these people may even find our leaders invoking cultural symbols like Ganga Nadi, Rama Setu, Vindhyas, Mansarowar, Kailasha or having a Ganesha mUrti on their cars dashboard communal. The pseudo-secularism these incompetent politicians define is tantamount to curbing ones freedom in the expression of dharma. This is a basic idea we cannot expect Congress and its minions to understand.
