When the odds are against you! Have you ever felt backed up - TopicsExpress

When the odds are against you! Have you ever felt backed up against a wall, with the odds stacked against you? It’s easy to trust in God when things are going our way. However, God often removes comforts and false securities from our lives to remind us that He is the true source of our strength. “Come on, let’s go to the camp of those foreigners. Maybe the Lord will use us to defeat them. Nothing can stop the Lord—it doesn’t matter if we have many soldiers or just a few soldiers.” - 1 Samuel 14:6 (ERV) From a human perspective, it probably seemed that Israel was at a disadvantage in every respect that a human army could possibly be in at this particular point in their (military) history. The Israelites, as in times past, have found themselves at this point (1 Samuel 14), once again, with the odds - for the most part - stacked against them. Although, yes, they - under the leadership of Jonathan, son of King Saul of Israel - had recently had a victory against a Philistine military outpost in Geba (1 Samuel 13:3), the Philistines didnt take too kindly (to say the least) to this attack, gathering together thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude, encamping in Michmash, to the east of Beth Aven (1 Samuel 13:5). (In contrast, King Sauls army was just a fraction of the Philistines army [e.g., 1 Sam. 13:2, 6-8, 15].) In this life, it can seem at times that our adversary, the devil, is no different than an opposing, overwhelming army seeking to attack and destroy us at the first opportune moment. (Along these lines, the Bible tells us that the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour [1 Peter 5:8].) But despite the spiritual battles that we might find ourselves facing at times in this life (e.g., Eph. 6:12), the Lord promises that if we submit and trust in Him, we will be empowered to resist the devil - causing him to ultimately flee from us (James 4:7). Truly, through our faith and trust in God, we shall be empowered by God to not give place to the devil [Eph. 4:27] - being able to stand against the wiles of the devil; because we have simply put on the whole armor of God by trusting in Him to begin with [Eph. 6:11; cf. Rom. 13:14].) May we, be like Jonathan of old, take courage, knowing that though the enemy might seem very opposing and overwhelming at times, God is in the business of giving us the victory - ultimately bringing us to the fullness of the glory of His Son, Jesus Christ, when all is said and done (e.g., 1 Cor. 15:57; Philippians 1:6; 1 John 3:2). Having already given us a decisive victory through Jesus Christ. So right now you ought to be jumping and shouting already because of the promise of God! DON’T MISS HEARING WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY PROMISED! Don’t let your fear and adversary make you miss your Blessing!
