Philippines joins the 2014 Taipei International Food Show FOOD PHILIPPINES TAKES ON TAIWAN’S MOST POPULAR ANNUAL FOOD EXPO The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, through its Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) and Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Taipei (PTIC-Taipei), participated in this year’s Taipei International Food Show that was held last June 25 to 28 at the Taiwan World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. Dubbed as Food Taipei, it is the biggest and most popular food expo being held yearly, garnering thousands of local Taiwanese and foreign visitors looking for food business opportunities In line with Food Taipei’s theme of promoting healthy food choices, the 12-booth Philippine Pavilion hosted companies who are into the natural, organic and healthy products industry. The small and medium enterprise food manufacturers and exporters who participated were Alter Trade Corp., Andy Albao Enterprise, DLA Naturals Inc., Fruits of Life Inc., M.Lhuillier Food Products, Miesto International Foods Corp., See’s International Food Manufacturing, Team Asia Corp., Tiongson Marketing, and Tropicana Food Products. A highlight of the Philippine Pavilion was the live cooking demo sessions done by a Taiwanese chef, who was trained in one of the prestigious culinary schools in the Philippines. He made some dishes and desserts using the variety of Philippine food products of the manufacturer and exporter participants as some of his ingredients. . The food products that garnered the most interest from Taiwanese and foreign buyers were the coconut by-products such as the VCO, coco powder, coco cream and the buko natural juice. Other Philippine food products such as the Muscovado sugar, natural food supplements, fruit jellies and ice pops, and dried tropical fruits have also received a significant interest from the expo visitors. With DTI’s participation in Food Taipei this year, the market share of Philippine food exports to Taiwan will definitely increase as the participants reported a combined projected total export order of more than USD 13.63 million during the said event. Import Export Association of Taiwan (IEAT) executives visited the Philippine pavilion.
