Phillip Hoffman, the actor who lost his life this year, is a fellow that I’ve not paid attention to other than his random parts in films, I mean I knew who Hoffman was, but I didn’t pay attention to him. I watched this video and to ally changed my views. He was an actor, playing the part to where you believed him, that he wasn’t acting, but being the character, whatever form the character took. In short, he was magnificent! The study of acting is a hard one. The person you portray has to be believable, that you have put on the skin of the person your portraying and act like that. Most don’t, unfortunately. True, some actors who play one-demonstrable character are great, such as Nicholas Cage, Clint Eastwood etc. But multifaceted characters, those who can change their face — tho you are looking AT the same face, but the character stands out. I’m thinking, for the moment, of Johnny Depp, or Gary Oldman. These are the actor’s actor. Such was Hoffman. Watch this.
