Phillip Van Garrick : Some of my wealthier conservative friends - TopicsExpress

Phillip Van Garrick : Some of my wealthier conservative friends have been trying to convince me that the concept of equal rights is an error. By inference they are saying the the more economically successful deserve the reward of greater power and rights, while the unsuccessful have no rights to anything they cannot pay for. Whatever we think, there is definitely a dehumanizing hubris that seems to go hand in hand with wealth, and undermines human decency by diminishing regard for others without wealth. The natural world is conquered, and the necessities of life are divided into economic parcels to be sold as the market will bear. When the necessities are hoarded as commodities, as they are, control of them becomes control over the well or ill being lives of those with limited supply or without. The equality of choice in a democracy does not align with the economic reality of abundance and scarcity, thus those with more, who see themselves as separate from their less materially blessed, come to believe they are truly superior to others, and not equal in any way. This is my understanding of how unbalanced and unchecked economic power lead to the corruption of humanity.
