Photo from yesterdays funeral of former MAFCA President Marshall Lewis as his casket was carried to the cemetery in the bed of a 28 AA Express in Modesto, California. Marshall served as president in 1977. He received the Jack Payton Award twice which is a national award presented to honor the spirit of participation and awarded to the individual judged to be the most outstanding participant at a MAFCA National Convention. He had an award named for he and his wife, the Marshall and Veta Lewis Couples Fashion Award. His obituary indicates that he started restoring Model As in the mid-60s and he and his wife drove their Model A in all 48 continental states. Marshall was instrumental in establishing the Model A Ford Museum in the Gilmore collection in Hickory Corners, Michigan and donated his 1931 Victoria Coupe to the museum which is on display today just as you enter the museum. A tribute to Marshall will be placed with the vehicle in the near future. RIP Marshall. I have several friends who have been taken to their final resting place in the bed of their Model A Pickup and another friend who wanted to be taken to his grave in his Model A Roadster - of course the casket wouldnt fit in a Roadster, so they pulled it to the cemetery on a small flatbed trailer behind his beloved Roadster.
