Picture this: you’re thirsty. But instead of getting up, grabbing a glass from the cupboard and pouring yourself a nice, clean glass of water from the tap, you have to walk 12 miles to a water source that isn’t clean at all. That’s the reality for millions of families in Africa, and often times, the burden falls to the young. Most days, they make the trip three times. That means there’s no time for play, and definitely no time for school. This is one of many basic human rights that not everyone in Africa has access to. Some 1600 children will die from diarrhea today because they don’t have access to clean drinking water. HIV and Malaria combined don’t kill as many people in Africa as unsafe water. Unclean water locks people in poverty, but clean water gives life and allows these children to get an education and supply their families with proper nutrition. We take it for granted here, but you can really see in the faces of these kids
