Pipeline fire sparks dismay online The massive #blaze caused by an oil leak from a PetroChina #pipeline in Dalian, Liaoning Province, was put out on Tuesday morning. According to reports, the pipeline had been damaged due to drilling operations carried out by a local construction company in a suburb of Dalian. Crude oil then flowed into the urban sewage pipeline network and a fire broke out at the end of the pipelines. Residents nearby were immediately evacuated and traffic around the site was halted. Both ends of the oil pipeline were shut after the leak. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The report of the fire caused much dismay on social media, with netizens urging effective action by the authorities to prevent such incidents in the future. “It is so heart-breaking. I was born in Daqing, a city sustained by its famous oil field. Dalian is the city where I am living at the moment, and I hope I can settle here for the rest of my life. No wonder the air quality was bad this morning,” @Binggannvshi. “Explosions, oil leakage…such things have happened in the past 4 years while I’ve been staying in Dalian,” @KyleXiansheng. “The pipeline has had some accidents in the past. There was a risky moment; like the last time when there was a typhoon. But why did the government do nothing about it? They just covered the facts regardless of the safety of the people…”@sssssskin.
