While I was looking for an entry to show how much we love and respect our Pastor and he will be missed, I found the following and realized; that it fit Pastor Schmidt. A faithful minister not only benefits the church, but society at large and the state from his activity. This, Lluther tells parents in his sermon. Ministers a Blessing to All, In addition to this, your son as minister also does nothing but great and important work for the world. For he informs and instruct people in all walks of life how they are to act in order to do right before God. He can comfort the sad, give advice, set bad affairs in order, guide erring consciences, help keep the peace, reconcile, concilate people, and do countless other works daily. For a pracher strengthens, confirms, and helps to uphold all government, all temporal peace. He checks the unruly, teaches obedience, morals, decency, and honor. He instructs father, mother, children, servants, and in short, all offices and positions in their duties. To be sure, these are the most insignificant works of a minister; yet they are so great and noble that none of the wise among all the heathen have every appreciated or understood them; much less have they been able to do them.
