Please dont take this post as though someone pissed me me off or offended me, because that is not the case at all. I just want to put out some information. There is NO standardization to training....yup none. You just have a bunch of professionals that do not agree on methodology. From the super ultra positive, to treat based only, to trainers that believe in correcting, to the mega old school intimidation only. there are many schools of thought and everyone will find a trainer that will fit their beliefs and needs. I implore you to do your research and find the methods that you agree with ..there is no right or wrong. Everyone feels differently about raising children, well...thats just about the same for dogs. Pick someone that meets your needs based on what you believe in and agree with. Please do let a trainer intimidate you ( that is not what teachers are supposed to do, intimidate you into agreeing with them).... You are all intelligent individuals and can make choices that are in your best interest and your dogs. I honestly state this in all my level 1 classes ... If you do not agree with what I just told/taught you them dont do it! ...no matter what... you know what is best for your dog. There is no cookie cutter mold for training dogs...all dogs must be treated as individuals just like us! You have to customize and work with each dog as an individual. There is no 6-8 week, 2 month, 1 year etc etc... program or guarantee. There are no guarantees in life just as there are no guarantees in training. You have to put in the hard work and make the bond with your dog along the way. Stay educated and follow your beliefs..you will know what works for you and your pooch...happy training!
