Please join us in wishing our dear sister, Shira Nesher, good luck on her exciting move to London. Today is her last day with us (at least for awhile), and were going to miss her! At MEJDI we are a tight knit group of Israelis, Palestinians, Americans, Arabs, Jews, Christians, and Muslims (plus other countries)-- were like a family! On this day, we think it is fitting to highlight the kind of peacemaker Shira is--one who puts her values of equality, peace, and justice into action. Please take a moment to wish Shira the best of luck, and to read this one (of countless) examples of her peacebuilding work. Shira Nesher demonstrated a new way to struggle for justice, human rights and equality. She didn’t just demand better treatment of Palestinians from afar, which is an easy thing to do. Preaching ethics and morality to others is not costly. When Shira couldn’t guarantee that her Palestinian colleagues would be treated equally, she gave up her privileges in a show of equality. That’s how this struggle for human rights in Israel/Palestine can be won.
